Main scope of responsibility
HDR is looking for a Civil Engineer to join our team of renewable energy professionals. Candidates interested in this industry will perform engineering tasks of varying complexity assigned by project engineers or project managers. Primary tasks will include the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and civil designs to support solar installations and substation systems of all sizes, under the direction and supervision of more experienced engineers and designers. They will also be responsible for executing the technical aspects and deliverables of the assigned project and must be able to meet all technical requirements for projects of basic to medium complexity. This individual must have experience in building site planning and design, planning and drainage design, erosion and access control planning, disturbance boundary calculations, due diligence, approvals, specifications and construction management of building site infrastructure components.
Civil engineers are also expected
Conduct site planning and design.
Review of geotechnical and geological reports
Assess hydrology and hydraulics to improve site drainage
Assess water and wastewater flow to improve site supply
Perform site classification and earthworks analysis
Coordinate with other project disciplines including structural, electrical and environmental.
Experience managing multiple projects, understanding client standards, and working independently on smaller projects or assisting senior engineers on larger projects.
Communicate effectively with project managers, project engineers and most importantly with our customers.
Work under the direction of Project Managers and Project Engineers and handle basic to moderately complex tasks on their own.
Work with experienced staff and senior engineers to identify and develop specific technical expertise, and attend training and seminars focused on further developing and understanding complex concepts relevant to your discipline.
Work with CADD designers and engineers to develop drawings according to national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications and requirements.
Assign tasks, provide guidance and/or review work performed by CADD designers and engineers, and coordinate QA reviews with other teams as needed.
Support new business opportunities and renew existing customer engagements
required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- PE strongly recommended; or capable of achieving within one year
- A minimum of 5 years of general architectural/construction professional experience is required
- Learn about Microsoft Office packages. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively (oral and written), work in teams and possess analytical and organizational skills.
- An attitude and commitment to actively participate in our culture of employee ownership is a must.
- Some travel may be required.
priority qualification
- Preference will be given to local candidates.
- Previous experience in an architectural/engineering or engineering consultancy or utility company is ideal
- Experience in solar system or substation design is a plus
